Whales 11 August   Leave a comment

As I have said many times, no two days are the same when you go whale watching and today was no different.  As Spirit of Gold Coast approached the whales, we were greeted with pectoral slapping, spy hopping, and lots of white from the under side of the whales. We had a few pods around us that seemed to join together and then drift apart. At one time, there was 6 whales in one pod, all rolling over each other with such gentleness and grace. It was really special to watch the whales roll onto their backs, bringing one pectoral fin up and dropping it down as the other fin came up and the whale rolled to the side. Every move they make is such an amazing sight. The 110 people on board Spirit all witnessed something very special today, not everyone gets to see so many whales playing together and so close to the boat.
