The Beginning of New Love, 2007 and 2008   Leave a comment

My passion for whales began back in July 2007 when I took my first whale watching trip aboard ‘The Spirit Of Gold Coast”.

It is now become an addiction and if I can’t go on the boat, then I drive to the beach or the Gold Coast Seaway and watch the whales from there.
Every year from June to November along the East coast of Australia, the Humpback whales make their annual migration north fron Antarctica to the warmer waters of the Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia to mate and give birth. Their gestation period is 11 and a half months, which means one year they are up north mating and the next they are back to give birth.
Humpback whales in the southern hemisphere are larger than humpbacks from the northern hemisphere. They can grow up to 18 meters long and weigh as much as 50 tonnes.
